80th Annual Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo

The 80th Annual Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo kicked off Feb. 7-9 in sunny Yuma, AZ. Although a smaller rodeo, there is nothing small about the rodeo spirit and the Old West heritage is alive and well in Yuma. Unfortunately, working with live animals can be unpredictable and during Sunday's perf a bucking horse jumped the arena fence and injured two audience members. One person was taken to the hospital but the pick-up men were able to take control of the horse to return it to the arena. The horse was not injured. Thankfully, the rest of the rodeo action stayed within the arena.

All-around cowboy and a $1,740 check went to Dalton Walker who competed in steer wrestling, team roping, and steer roping. Garrett Blackwell took first in the bareback riding with his 84.5 points on Nevada Smith (Salt River Rodeo) for $1,424. Cody Cabral took first in the steer wrestling with his 4.5 seconds run to take home $1,738. Hiyo Yazzie & Shawn Murphy took first in the team roping with their quick 4.8 seconds run to earn $2,181 each. Reed Neely took first in the saddle bronc riding with an 83 points on Lucky Bug (Honeycutt Rodeo) for $1,740. Kyle Dutton took first in the tie-down roping with an 8.7 second run for a $1,942 check. In the barrel racing, Anita Ellis was fastest around the barrels for a first place with her 17.34 second run. Scottie Knapp took first in the bull riding with a big 85.5 point ride on Ted (Honeycutt Rodeo) for $1,881.
